(LANSING) – St. Joseph County has received a special recognition.
The Michigan Office of Services to the Aging, through the Commission on Services to the Aging has designated St. Joseph County as a Community for a Lifetime, in recognition of their efforts to become more age friendly.
OSA Director Kari Sederburg says she would like to personally thank St. Joseph County for their commitment to become a more age-friendly community by participating in the program. Sederburg says the County's efforts should be commended and will certainly help improve the lives of those living in their communities.
St. Joseph County assessed itself on many issues, including safety and security; walkability; and access to health care, transportation, housing, commerce and enrichment activities.
Some of the County's strengths include a detailed online senior resource directory; multiple educational and leadership opportunities for older adults; a range of programs available for home repair and home modification; multiple recreational opportunities and senior employment opportunities which are supported locally.
