(DEFIANCE, OH) - Two separate deadly car accidents happened just a few miles and two hours apart on Defiance County roads Tuesday.
The first crash occurred at 11:20 a.m. when a 26-year-old woman, Cierra Jaquillard of Toledo, failed to stop at a stop sign and was hit by a motorhome driven by 61-year-old Jay Shaffer of Defiance. Jaquillard and her 3-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries, but Shaffer, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected and died from his injuries.
Just two hours later, a second fatal crash happened when 33-year-old Robert Peel Jr. of Angola failed to yield and collided with a car carrying 63-year-old Mary Chapman and 42-year-old John Chapman. Mary Chapman was killed in the accident. John Chapman was flown to the hospital with critical injuries, and Peel sustained minor injuries.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol stated that both crashes are still being investigated, but a common factor in both was the failure to stop at signs and not wearing seatbelts.
