The Kendallville SWAT fastpitch softball team won the NSA state title at Warsaw in convincing fashion this past weekend. SWAT scored 76 runs and gave up just 6 in advancing to the World Series in late July.
Detroit 10, Cleveland 4 – Max Scherzer pitched six strong innings, Miguel Cabrera homered and drove in three runs, and the Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians 10-4 on Sunday for a three-game sweep.
Minnesota 6, White Sox 5 – Joe Mauer had two hits and two RBIs, and the Twins beat the White Sox 6-5 to complete their first four-game sweep against Chicago in 20 years.
Pittsburgh 2, Cubs 1 – Brandon Cumpton pitched seven scoreless innings, Travis Snider hit a solo homer and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Chicago Cubs 2-1 on Sunday.
Fort Wayne 4, West Michigan 2 – The pitching trio of Payton Baskette, Eric Yardley, and Nick Mutz combined in a 4-2 Fort Wayne victory over the West Michigan Whitecaps. Former Whitecap Adolfo Reina provided a go-ahead two-run home run in the third inning, his second of the season against his former team, to put the TinCaps ahead for good.
