INDIANAPOLIS - The Westview Warriors boys basketball team has one game left in this extended season. This afternoon they’ll take on a tall and talented Indianapolis Park Tudor squad at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. A win would seal another class 2A state championship. If you’re watching the game on TV be sure to turn down the sound and turn your radio on to 105.5 for the local broadcast call of the game with Thunder Country’s Brett Briscoe and Bob Murphy. The pregame show follows the conclusion of the 1-A championship game around 12:15.
UNDATED - Michigan, Michigan State, Connecticut, and Kentucky advanced to college basketball’s Elite Eight last night.
Michigan held off a desperate comeback attempt by Tennessee, which had a chance to win on a last second three point shot that went over the backboard.
Aaron Harrison hit a 3-pointer for the go-ahead score with 39 seconds left and Julius Randle made a pair of clutch free throws to lift the fantastic freshmen of Kentucky to a 74-69 victory over their in-state rivals, defending champion Louisville. The eighth-seeded Wildcats (27-10) led for a grand total of 65 seconds in this Midwest Regional semifinal. They'll play Michigan on Sunday for a trip to the Final Four.
Branden Dawson had 24 points and 10 rebounds, and the Spartans forced top-seeded Virginia into a terrible shooting performance in a 61-59 victory Friday night to advance to East Regional final of the NCAA tournament.
The fourth-seeded Spartans (29-8) will play Connecticut (29-8) on Sunday with a Final Four berth at stake. The seventh-seeded Huskies beat third-seeded Iowa State 81-76 earlier Friday.
