Student group proposes Kindness Week at Constantine
By: Mike Stiles - Tuesday, February 25, 2020

CONSTANTINE – A Constantine High School student group is asking for one week where students are kind to each other.

During Monday's Constantine Board of Education Meeting, members of the Gay Straight Alliance shared about the origins of the group. Gracie, a senior at Constantine High School says the GSA is an activism group, fighting for the rights and safety of all students in the Constantine Public Schools who feel they don't belong. They also serve as a safe space for any student who needs it.

The GSA is asking for the Constantine School Board to allow for Kindness Week to happen the week of March 23. The idea for Kindness Week is based on the No Name Calling Week that started in 2004, and which was developed from an idea that came from the book “The Misfits”.

Gracie shares that each day of Kindness Week would have a special designation. Monday is Compliment Day; Tuesday is Help Someone Day; Wednesday is Apologize Day; Thursday is Pride and Ally Day and Friday is Giving Day.

The Board of Education will vote on the proposal during their meeting next Monday.
