(COLDWATER) – Some Branch County Schools have decided to push back the start of the 2020-21 school year.

In a release issued by the Branch Intermediate School District, it was announced that the Coldwater, Quincy and Bronson School Districts have agreed to delay the start of their in person classes until September 8. Also agreeing to the later start date are Pansophia Academy in Coldwater and the Branch ISD.

Originally, in person classes for these school district was supposed to start August 24.

This announcement will not affect Union City Schools.

The release says the Superintendents of the school districts have been working collaboratively with staff in preparing for the opening of the school year. They realized that more time was needed to make sure all of the schools are prepared for the staff and students with adequate safety equipment, enough computers, staff training and other requirements mandated by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

They also said they have found that personal protective equipment and computers that are required are hard to get in a timely manner. Many of those orders are due to come in close to September 1.

School officials says they apologize for this late notification, but this decision was not made easily.

The release says each school district will release a calendar soon as they may vary slightly from district to district. The Winter and Spring breaks and Farmer's Day will remain as previously scheduled on the common calendar.

If you have questions, please contact your local school district's superintendent.
