(COLDWATER) – A fire was quickly put out Thursday morning at the Branch Area Career Center barn.

The Coldwater Fire Department was called out just before 8 AM Thursday. The Quincy Fire Department was dispatched at the same time to aid the Coldwater Department. A short time later, an All Call was issued for Coldwater firefighters.

Fire crews arrived and noticed light smoke coming from the barn. The fire was put out in a matter of minutes.

Firefighters then removed farm animals and some smoldering straw from the barn. No animals were injured or lost and there were no students at the barn when the fire broke out.

Coldwater Fire Marshal Steve Trall says his investigation determined the fire started because of a power cord to a heat lamp that caught the straw to the sheep pen on fire. Trall says the straw and hay was wet, preventing the fire from spreading.
