(DOWAGIAC) – Authorities are looking for a suspect in connection with a weekend shooting incident.

The Dowagiac Police Department says a 33 year old Dowagiac woman was shot around 10:30 PM Saturday in a parking lot near Dowagiac Liquor on Spruce Street. Officers say the victim had an incident with her boyfriend.

According to investigators, the victim was driving through the parking lot and the suspect, 45 year old Robert J. Smith III, was standing in the parking lot. Police say Smith shot several rounds into the victim's vehicle and then left the area.

The victim was treated at the scene, and then taken to a South Bend Hospital. She is in serious condition, but police say she is expected to survive.

Authorities are continuing to search for Smith, who should be considered armed and dangerous. If anyone has information on Smith's location, they are asked to call either the Dowagiac Police Department at 269-782-9743, or the Cass County Tip Line at 800-462-9328.
