(CENTREVILLE) - The St. Joseph County Commission heard about two upcoming drain projects on Tuesday.
During their meeting, the Commission was presented with the annual report from County Drain Commissioner Jeff Wenzel. In addition to sharing about the responsibilities of his office Wenzel shared about two drain projects that will happen on opposite sides of the County.
Wenzel says one of the projects is the Wildcat Drain in Three Rivers. The Michigan Department of Transportation wanted to do an update a stream due to an upcoming project on U.S. 131 and wanted the property owners to pay for it. Wenzel says he told MDOT that if they wanted the project done they would have to pay for it and they agreed to do that.
Wenzel says the other project is the Nye Drain that crosses under south M-66 in Sturgis. This is another project that MDOT said needed to be done because of some upcoming road work. Once again Wenzel says if MDOT wants it done they would have to pay for it, and Wenzel says MDOT will. (LISTEN ABOVE).
Wenzel says this is the first time he has seen in St. Joseph County that MDOT has agreed to completely pay for projects like these.
