(FLORENCE TOWNSHIP) – A White Pigeon man suffered major injuries after his motorcycle struck another vehicle.

St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite says his department was called to a car versus motorcycle accident at 4:30 PM Monday. A 53 year old White Pigeon man was driving north on Burgener Road on a motorcycle, and ran the stop sign at Banker Street Road. The motorcycle was struck by a westbound SUV, driven by a 71 year old Sturgis man.

The motorcycle rider was thrown from his bike, and landed in a ditch, suffering major injuries. He was treated at the scene by Constantine Fire and Rescue and Life Care Ambulance, and then flown by West Michigan Air Care to a Kalamazoo Hospital.

The driver of the SUV was not injured.
