(STURGIS) – Concerns about procedures for Sturgis City Commissioners were brought up during a recent meeting.

During the July 28 meeting, Commissioner Rick Bir brought up a concern regarding the resignation of Electric Department Manager Josh Czjakowski. ...... {LISTEN}.

The discussion included Bir and Commissioner Jon Good speaking directly to Czajkowski, who was in the audience. Good asked Czjakowski if he would be willing to talk to the Commission about staying, but City Attorney Roger Bird stepped in. ...... {LISTEN}.

Bird says it's appropriate for the Commission to indicate concerns and ask the City Manager to look into it, but the Commission can't negotiate
an employment contract in public.

City Manager Mike Hughes says the City Charter was set up to allow for the sitting City Manager to negotiate contracts, keeping the City Commission from having to become involved in that portion of city business.
