(LANSING) – Michigan residents who are looking for assistance with their energy bills are now able to apply for the Michigan Home Heating Credit.

According to the Michigan Department of Treasury, individuals who are low income, deaf, senior citizens, disabled or blind, or disabled veterans may qualify for the home heating credit. In addition, they are not required to file a Michigan individual income tax return to get the credit.

Michigan State Treasurer Racheal Eubanks says this credit can provide Michigan residents with help on their heating bill, and give them the opportunity to spend their money on other necessities.

You can apply for the home heating credit online through the e-File system. All forms and instructional materials are available at www.michigan.govincometax. You can also call 517-636-4486. You can also find the forms at many public libraries and at Michigan Department of Health and Human Services offices.

All applications must be received by September 30.
