(STURGIS) – The Sturgis City Commission has agreed to two proposed millage rates.

During Wednesday’s meeting, Sturgis City Clerk Ken Rhodes shared with the Commission that the tax rate needs to be set by the end of June each year, and because of that the public hearing should be held during the June 26 Commission meeting.

The reason the millage rates are lower than last year is due to the Headlee Rollback Rule.

Rhodes did say that during the public hearing, the Commissioners could choose to set the millage rates at a lower level that what has been proposed.

The Commission unanimously agreed to the hold the public hearing on June 26 and advertise the millage rates at the proposed levels.
