Naked driver jailed after chase

COLDWATER – It was an interesting start to the day for a Michigan State Police trooper.

State Police from the Coldwater Detachment received a report at 3:30 Thursday morning from several people who said they saw a naked man standing on top of a picnic table at the MDOT Welcome Center south of Coldwater on I-69. Witnesses say the man was also touching himself as people entered the rest area.

A trooper was able to sneak up on the man and taser him twice, but the man was able to get into his car and drive away.

The trooper chased the car north to the Fenn Road exit, and onto the Business Loop of I-69. It ended a mile later when the suspect's car stopped in a residential yard. The suspect tried to run away, but was apprehended by the trooper.

Investigators determined the man was from the Coldwater area. He is lodged in the Branch County Jail.
