Mendon residents question proposed solar farm

CENTREVILLE – Some Mendon and Nottawa area residents have questions and concerns about a proposal to bring a solar farm to the area.

During Tuesday's St. Joseph County Commission meeting, Arnie Switalski shared information about what has been happening and the selling of 550 acres of land for the proposed solar array.

The done deal, according to Switalski, means the solar array should be completed in three years.

However, Switalski says the representative from Geronimo could not explain write offs, depreciation of equipment, maintenance costs, repair and updating costs or environmental problems associated with a solar farm.

Switalski says he and other citizens are researching the matter and trying to share the information with others in the Mendon area.

He wanted to ask the County Commission to be cautious if they are contacted by Geronimo and to not hurry into any kind of agreement until they thoroughly research every aspect of this proposal
