(STURGIS) – More responsibilities have been given to Sturgis City Engineer Barry Cox.

During a recent meeting, the Sturgis City Commission unanimously approved appointing Cox to be the Traffic Engineer for Sturgis. City staff requested the appointment of Cox to the position.

Some of the new duties Cox will be responsible for include the installation and proper timing and maintenance of traffic control devices; conducting engineering analysis of traffic accidents and to devise remedial measures; planning the operation of traffic on the streets, including the parking areas; regulating the movement and parking of vehicles within the municipality and cooperating with other City officials in the development of ways and means to improve traffic conditions.

Per the State of Michigan Uniform Traffic Code, a traffic engineer shall be appointed if the authority is vested in someone other than the Chief of Police.
