(CENTREVILLE) - Students who participate in dual enrollment at Glen Oaks Community College are significantly more likely to earn a college credential.

That's according to new college data that mirrors a recent national report showing strong benefits for students who start college early.

Recent data from Glen Oaks shows that 46.1% of students who are dual enrolled at the college went on to complete a degree or certificate within eight years. That's compared to just 26.3% of students who began their college journey after high school. That 20 point difference matches national trends released by the National Student Clearinghouse, which reported a 19.7 pointsgap between dual enrolled and non dual enrolled students nationwide.

Glen Oaks President Dr. Bryan Newton says these numbers show that dual enrollment isn't just about saving time or money, it's about changing the trajectory of a student's future. Newton says the earlier they can engage learners in college-level experiences, the better their chances of success.

The findings come in the wake of a national report highlighting how early access to college-level coursework boosts degree completion.
