(GRAND RAPIDS) - A former meteorologist has announced she is seeking the Republican nomination to run for a seat in the U.S. Congress.

Terri DeBoer announced on her website Thursday that she is running for Michigan's 3rd District Congressional seat.

DeBoer says she is entering the race to safeguard liberty and economic prosperity for the next generation of Michiganders. After spending over three decades predicting storms, she says there is a different kind of turbulence on the horizon, one that threatens our safety, our freedoms and our children's future.

On her website, the 61 year old DeBoer says she is running to secure our borders, protect the vulnerable, transition to patient-centered healthcare, and restore fiscal sanity to a government that has lost its way.

DeBoer is running against Grand Rapids Attorney J. Allen Fiorletta for the Republican nomination.

The winner will face incumbent Congresswoman Hillary Scholten of Grand Rapids, who took office in 2023.
