(BATTLE CREEK) - A quick start and solid defense help the Sturgis girls basketball team beat Coldwater 44-38 to win a Division 1 District Championship. The Lady Trojans outscored Coldwater 10-2 in the third quarter to build on their one point lead at the half. Sydney Bir led Sturgis and all scorers with 19 points. (LISTEN ABOVE). Cora Phillips had 11 points and Kinder Smith had 6 points. Coldwater got a team high 12 points from Rylie VanAken and 10 points from Addy Bucklin. Coldwater ends their season at 17-8. Sturgis is now 20-3 and will play DeWitt in a Monday Regional semifinal game. DeWitt won their District Championship by beating East Lansing 51-41.
