(CASSPOLIS) - The Cass County Sheriff's Office wants to inform the public about a recently reported phone scam.

Sheriff Clint Roach says they were contacted recently by a resident who had received a phone call that included "No Caller ID" on the phone's screen. The caller said they were from the Cass County Sheriff's Office and told the would-be victim they had two outstanding warrants for missing jury duty.

The county resident says the caller sounded convincing to them, providing what was presumably a fake name and fake case numbers. The caller then demanded the victim pay $2,000 to put a pause on the warrants. The resident ended the phone call and then called the Sheriff's Office.

Roach says his office will never conduct business of this nature over the telephone.
