some Freeland Estate items up for auction

(FORT WAYNE) - One of northeast Indiana's most famous properties is opening its doors -- and its closets -- to the public. The Freeland Estate in Fort Wayne, now known as The Hamilton -- and often referred to commonly as the "Pizza Hut Mansion" - has launched a massive auction featuring more than 600 items collected over decades. The sale opened Wednesday and runs through December 15th, and auctioneers say it's just the first in a series of planned auctions tied to the historic estate. Buyers will find everything from Victorian-era décor to high-end luxury pieces. The lineup includes large oil paintings, stained glass, rare Asian and European porcelain, Waterford and Lalique crystal, and even a 40-piece Jay Strongwater collection -- one of the most anticipated lots.

Collectors will also see Jackie Robinson Louisville Slugger bats, a vintage 1930s slot machine, Louis Vuitton suitcases, and collectible Pizza Hut memorabilia. There are oversized furniture pieces, carved roosters, massive Chinese vases, Griswold and Lodge cast iron, All-Clad cookware, Victorian oil lamps, and an assortment of unique folk art and taxidermy. Wiegmann Auctioneers encourages interested buyers to review details on their website. The auction comes just days after news that the 40-acre Freeland Estate is officially under contract. The mansion, listed at $6.75 million, won't be considered sold until closing is complete.
