(STURGIS) - Sturgis residents will soon have the chance to get rid of any unwanted household items.

The Sturgis Neighborhood Program will be hosting their next Neighbor2Neighbor Disposal Day on Saturday May 2. The event looks to provide an opportunity for City residents to dispose of unwanted household items at no cost.

The program started in 2024. Sturgis Neighborhood Program Executive Director Kathryn Myers recently shared with the City Commission how much they have collected so far on the Disposal Days. Myers says they have helped nearly 200 Sturgis residents and collected 360 cubic yards of hazardous waste. She says that's nearly 36 full size dump trucks or a 1000 square foot basement with a ten foot ceiling filled up. (LISTEN ABOVE).

This year's event is partially funded with assistance from the St. Joseph County United Way.

The City of Sturgis has agreed to hold the Disposal Day at the Public Services and Utilities Building, 805 North Centreville Road from 9 AM until 11 AM or until the dumpsters are full. The City will also have three DPS employees on site to run front end loaders.

You must be a City of Sturgis resident and provide proof of address to participate.
