(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana's statewide unemployment rate dropped from December 2025 to January 2026.
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development says the unemployment rate went from 3.5% to a January figure of 3.4%.
In addition, Indiana's labor force participation rate is at 63.5%, compared to the national rate of 62.5%. This is the percentage of Hoosier 16 and older that are either working or actively looking for work. Indiana's total labor force stands at 3,503,632.
January 2026 total private employment is 2,831,400, which is an increase of 10,200 since December.
Industries that experienced job increases in January include Professional & Business Services (+6,800); Construction (+2,700), Private Educational & Health Services (+2,100) and Trade, Transportation & Utilities (+1,700).
