(COLDWATER) - Voters in the Coldwater Community School District voted down a millage request.

2,104 voters cast No ballots and 1,677 voters said Yes to the proposal.

The millage request was for $64 million with the main thrust to modernize Coldwater High School. Part of the work to be done included a two-story, 62,000 square foot wing for new science labs and a media center.

If it has been approved, the proposal would have resulted in a 1.5 mill increase. That would cost the average homeowner approximately $12.50 per month.

Coldwater School officials say this is a project that is scaled back compared to previous requests. They says it focused on essential safety and climate control needs, including the addition of central air conditioning.
