(STURGIS) - It was a busy weekend for the St. Joseph County United Way.

Following Thursday's storms that moved through Sturgis and St. Joseph County, United Way Executive Director Kelly Hostetler says they were dispatched to the Village Manor Apartments on the east side of Sturgis Friday.

Hostetler says there are between 750 and 800 residents at Village Manor, and they haven't had power due to the storm. She says the food in their refrigerators is going bad and they don't have the means to go out to eat and they needed food. Hostetler says she received a text from a resident asking if the United Way could help them. (LISTEN ABOVE).

Hostetler says she made a few calls to get some food and then came to the complex Saturday and Sunday to cook hotdogs and give them along with chips and water to the residents.

Hostetler says she was also able to bring a special shower trailer to Village Manor, which was loaned to her by the First Presbyterian Church of Sturgis. The trailer has three private shower stalls so residents could get showers.

Hostetler says they are hoping to have a food distribution for the residents of Village Manor either Tuesday or Wednesday. She says they can find out more on social media.
