(MENDON) - A 35 year career in education is coming to an end for a local individual.

Mendon Superintendent Leasa Griffith-Mathews has announced that she is retiring effective December 31 of this year.

In a media release, Griffith-Mathews says it is with profound mixed emotions that she makes this announcement. She says after dedicating 35 years of her life to the field of education with the last eight as Superintendent, it's time to begin a new chapter.

Griffith-Mathews says as she reflects on her time in Mendon as an educator and then administrator, she is incredibly proud of what has been accomplished by the schools and the community working together. She says over the last eight years they have worked collaboratively to build a healthy fund balance, pass a bond renewal and to always have the best interests of the students as the driving factor in any decision that was made.

While she is stepping down, Griffith-Mathews says her commitment to the success of Mendon Community Schools remains unwavering. She says she is fully committed to ensuring a seamless transition.
