(LEONIDAS TOWNSHIP) - A weekend fire damaged a St. Joseph County house.
The Leonidas Township Fire Department was called out at 8:23 AM Saturday to a reported structure fire in the 53,000 block of Shannon Road. The Athens Township Fire Department also responded and found a two-story residential structure with heavy smoke showing from the home.
The Colon, Mendon, Centreville, Burr Oak, Pavilion Township and Climax Township Fire Departments provided mutual aid in battling the blaze. Firefighters encountered high heat, zero-visibility conditions and significant hoarding conditions inside the residence. Despite these challenges, crew brought the fire under control in approximately three hours.
Firefighters remained on scene for six hours conducting overhaul and completing other fireground operations.
No injuries were reported and due to the fire damage and structural integrity of the residence, the house was ultimately demolished.
St. Joseph County Victim Services also assisted at the scene.
