(LANSING) - Michigan's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased during the month of September.
According to data released by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget, the state's unemployment rate dropped from 5.2% to 5.1%. Overall employment fell by 2,000 during the month and the number of unemployed people receeded by 5,000, resulting in a workforce decline of 7,000 in September.
Total employment in Michigan decreased for the seventh consecutive month during September, with the number of employed declining by 28,000 or six-tenths of a percent, since February 2025.
The largest increase in employment was in construction up 2.1% from August to September. Natural Resources and Mining went up 1.4%.
Due to the suspension of Federal government services from October 1 to November 12, updates to Michigan's employment, unemployment and payroll jobs estimation for September 2025 were delayed. The October 2025 Michigan and regional employment situation press releases have been cancelled as a result of the interruption.
