(CENTREVILLE) - A Vicksburg man has been sentenced in the death of a 10 year old boy.

St. Joseph County Circuit Court officials say Judge Paul Stutesman sentenced 30 year old Logan Thomas to seven years and six months in prison on a charge of operating while intoxicated causing death as a habitual fourth offender. In November, Thomas plead guilty to the charge.

On December 2, 2024 the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office was called to the area of Balk Road and Banker Street Road in Sherman Township just after 8 AM on a report of a vehicle striking several children. Deputies arrived and determined that Thomas had been traveling west on Banker Street Road on his way to work and failed to see the Amish children riding their bikes to school and he struck 10 year old Anthony Miller.

First responders performed life saving measures on Anthony, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thomas was found to be under the influence of meth, fentanyl, amphetamine and morphine at the time of the incident.
