October Jobless Rates Down Around NE Indiana

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Jobless rates went down around Northeast Indiana during the month of October.

According to data released by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, LaGrange County went from a September unemployment rate of 3.7 percent to an October figure of 3.3 percent, or a drop of four-tenths of a percent. One year ago, the County's unemployment rate was 2.5 percent.

The biggest drop was in Elkhart County, which went from 5.2 percent in September to a figure of 4.2 percent in October, or a decrease of one full percentage point.

Noble County saw a decrease of eight-tenths of a percent, going from 5.4 percent in September to 4.6 percent in October. Steuben County dropped from 4.4 percent in September to 3.7 percent in October, which is a decrease of seven-tenths of a percent. DeKalb County saw their jobless rate go from 4.8 percent in September to 3.9 percent in October, which is a drop of nine-tenths of a percent.

Statewide, the jobless rate dropped from 6.6 percent in September to an even 5 percent for October. That's a decrease of 1.6 percent. In 2019, Indiana's October jobless rate was 3.2 percent.
