(UNDATED) – Over 22,000 ducks were culled at 5 commercial duck farms in LaGrange and Elkhart Counties last week.
Indiana animal health officials confirm there is a new wave of avian influenza moving through northern Indiana. Control areas and surveillance zones are being actively monitored near sites of bird flu outbreaks.
People should avoid contact with diseased birds. However, if you must remove a dead bird to keep children or pets safe, wildlife officials recommend using gloves and a mask, and thoroughly washing up afterwards.
A 10 percent bleach solution is effective at killing the virus.
